The Sun-Gazette and Backyard Broadcasting are sponsoring an Oct. 30 political forum at the Community Theatre League featuring Democrat Rick Mirabito, 83rd District representative in the General Assembly, and his Republican challenger, Harry Rogers.
The forum will begin at 7 p.m. and will be moderated by Vincent J. Matteo, president of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.
The Sun-Gazette also is endeavoring to arrange another forum between state Sen. E. Eugene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, and his challenger, Democrat Luana Cleveland.
The Mirabito-Rogers forum will include opening and closing statements from the candidates, questions from panelists representing the Sun-Gazette, Backyard Broadcasting and the Manufacturing and Business Association, and questions submitted from the audience in attendance.
The forums also will include three questions each from one candidate to the other, with dialogue regarding those issues ensuing.
"We are happy to be able to provide this opportunity for voters to become educated about the candidates they will be voting on very soon," said Sun-Gazette Publisher Bernard A. Oravec.
"We are particularly pleased that a portion of the forums will be dedicated to open dialogue between candidates, which allows a side of the candidates that won't be available anywhere else for voters," Oravec added.
Both forums will be broadcast live on radio station WWPA, AM 1340.
