BLOSSBURG - An unidentified driver was flown by medical helicopter to a trauma center after crashing his Jeep Cherokee Sport at about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday on Route 15 south, borough police said.
Details from police were in short supply, but officials at the scene said they think the vehicle was traveling too fast when it crossed the lane and flipped. It hit a road sign and crashed into a six-foot deep ditch, coming to a rest on its side, crews said.
Blossburg police closed the northbound lane as they worked to free the driver. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to remove the driver from the vehicle.
Fire Chief Shawn Carey, owner of a local towing company, removed the vehicle from the ditch and loaded it onto a flatbed truck.
The vehicle was loaded and the road was cleaned up in less than 18 minutes.
