Helen M. Rooney

Helen M. Rooney, 88, formerly of Renovo, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Sycamore Manor in Montoursville.

She was born in Renovo on April 2, 1924, the daughter of the late Luigi and Theresa Poleto Pompili.

Helen was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Renovo.

On Feb. 12, 1947, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo, she married Paul H. Rooney Sr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2012.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo and St. Ann's Catholic Church, Williamsport.

She was a homemaker most of her life. Prior to that she worked various jobs, including the Pennsylvania Railroad Shops in Renovo during World War II and for Piper Aircraft in South Renovo.

Helen was an avid seamstress, quilter and crocheter and was known for making afghans for all her friends and family through the years. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family. She loved to entertain people and always made them feel at home.

She is survived by a son, Paul H. (Tacie) Rooney Jr.; a daughter, Mary Rooney (Dan) Marra; a brother, Francis Pompili; a sister, Betty Lisanty; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother William "Morgan" Pompili.

A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo with Rev. Father Paul Fontanella officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Renovo. Friends and family will be received at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Flowers will be provided by the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Renovo or St. Ann's Catholic Church, Williamsport.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745.
