New business spotlight on Bob's Coins

October 21, 2012

Tucked away in the rear of Beiter's Store on Route 15 just south of South Williamsport is a new shop sure to bring delight to local coin collectors.

Bob's Coins, which opened last month, features U.S. coins of pre-1965 vintage, according to Paula Beiter, a partner in the business along with her father Bob Beiter.

"We have Indian Head pennies and Lincoln Cents. We have a nice selection of Morgan dollars," she said.

Beyond coins, collectors can find reference books, coin albums and other supplies related to the hobby.

Paula, who worked at her father's former shop, Robert Charles Coin Co. in downtown Williamsport, has been a numismatist, or coin collector, since she was a child.

"I think what makes us unique is that Bob has been a businessman in the community for more than 40 years," she said. "So many people know him and that he will treat them fairly."

Paula said customers from Robert Charles Coin Co. have visited the new store.

Many coin collectors, she said, shop on the Internet, but there is nothing quite like coming to a shop to see what's available.

Paula, for her part, attends coin shows around the state.

She serves as secretary of the Williamsport Area Numismatic Society, while Bob serves as treasurer.

"We have a decent amount of people involved in the coin club," she said.

One of her goals, she said, is to get more local people involved in coin collecting.

She hopes to talk to local groups such as Boy Scout troops about the hobby.

"To be able to share it with the younger generation is an amazing thing," she said.

Added Welty: "We are looking for new collectors."

A grand opening is set for Monday, Oct. 22 at the store.

Shop hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
