Geneva Eileen Shobert, 94, of 970 Railroad St., Jersey Shore, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Gatehouse with her family by her side.
Born Nov. 7, 1917, in Quiggleville, Pa., she was the daughter of Harvey L. Whitman and the former Laura J. Guinter.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Francis C. Shobert, on Sept. 3, 1980. They were united in marriage on Oct. 10, 1936.
She retired at age 80 from the Williamsport Hospital as a nursing assistant in the Pediatric Unit. For many years, she was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Jersey Shore. She loved taking care of her cats, traveling and playing piano, but her greatest love was spending quality time with her loving family. Geneva loved helping, caring for and serving others and was known for her wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by a daughter, Shelva D. (Paul) West of Jersey Shore; a daughter-in-law, Patricia M. Shobert of Jersey Shore; also her 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Geneva was preceded in death by two sons, Elwood F. Shobert and Ronald H. Shobert Sr.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church, 315 Thompson St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, Oct. 25, 2012, at the Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Jeffrey Howell, her pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of arrangements.
