ROUNDUP: Williamsport's Schwoyer qualifies for PIAA cross country meet

Williamsport's Chet Schwoyer punched his ticket to the PIAA?Cross Country Championships on Wednesday with a sixth-place finish at the District 2 Class AAA meet. Schwoyer finished the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 59 seconds despite muddy conditions. Hazleton's Jacob Fetterman won the race in 18:44. The Millionaires finished fourth in the team race with 89 points. Hazleton claimed the team title with 59 points.

Williamsport's Sarah Wirth was the Millionaires' top finisher in 14th place at the District 2 Class AAA cross country meet. Wirth finished in 23:38. Hannah Weber was 19th in 24:24. Abington Heights' Taylor Ross won in 20:58. Hazleton captured the team title with 46 points. Williamsport was fifth with 137.

Lycoming was outshot by 46 in a 5-0 loss to Elizabethtown in women's soccer. Sam Stropko recorded 19 saves for the Warriors.

Mercyhurst's Lauren Testa scored in the 81st minute to give the Lakers a 1-0 win over Lock Haven. The Lakers outshot the Bald Eagles, 20-14. Dana Wozniak recorded nine saves for Lock Haven.

Kyleigh Reckage scored the lone goal in Bloomsburg's 1-0 win over Mansfield. Tara Huber assisted on the goal and Danielle Fiorelli had two stops in goal for the Huskies.

Gregory Bretz scored in the 80th minute for Lock Haven but it wasn't enough in a 3-1 loss to Mercyhurst. Chris Frederick made five saves for the Bald Eagles.

Penn College took down Penn State New Kensington, 2-0. Benjamin Shade and Christian Dressler both scored for the Wildcats.

Behind goals from Kyle Fowler, Adiran Maneo and Ross Withrow, Elizabethtown blanked Lycoming, 3-0. James Quinn had 10 stops in goal for the Blue Jays.

Mansfield surrendered a goal in the 22nd minute in a 1-0 loss to Bloomsburg in college field hockey.

In women's volleyball, Penn College shut out Penn State Mont Alto, 3-0. Tara Powell led the Wildcats with 17 kills while Courtney Gernert added 16 digs.

Bucknell's men's basketball team was picked to finish second in the Patriot League in the preseason poll which was released Wednesday. Lehigh received 12 first-place votes and Bucknell received four. The Bison's Mike Muscala and Cameron Ayers were selected to the preseason all-Patriot League team.

Lycoming's women's basketball team was selected to finish fifth in the Commonwealth Conference preseason poll. The Warriors finished the polling with 43 points. Lebanon Valley was selected to finish first with 77 points.

Penn College's Matt Haile was named the PSUAC golf coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to a regular-season conference championship, and a second-place finish at the conference tournament.
