A city man has waived his preliminary hearing on multiple counts of forgery that were filed after he forged 15 checks that his girlfriend kept at the house the two share, city police said.
Bernard Keith Dennis, 48, of 402 Brandon Ave., allegedly forged and cashed the checks, which totaled $2,795, at various local bank branch offices between June 20 and July 19, police said. The checks were from the account of Narcotics Anonymous Service Convention Committee, police said.
Dennis, charged with 15 counts of forgery and one count of theft by deception, remains jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The deception charge stems from an incident back in 2007 when Dennis went to a bank and allegedly cashed an $848 unemployment compensation check that had already been scanned and cashed at another bank, police said.
