Dog Tales

Small dog has big adventures

October 29, 2012
From Staff Reports (life@sungazette.com) , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Idgie is a 1 1/2-year-old Brussels Griffon mix owned by Lindsay Breakey, of Linden, who believes Idgie is probably part Yorkie or Chihuahua.

The 11-pound dog came from the Hope For Hannah Animal Rescue Shelter.

"Her vet papers show she came all the way from Texas to Pennsylvania to find her new home with me, after being seized from a puppy mill," Breakey said.

Idgie is a 1 1/2-year-old Brussels Griffon mix owned by Lindsay Breakey, of Linden. She is shown in a kayak going down the Susquehanna River from Jersey Shore to Linden.

"My favorite stories to tell about Idgie is how adventurous and athletic she is for a small dog," she said.

"She likes to ride up on the top of the kayak when the waters aren't too rough and likes swimming - as long as the water isn't cold!"

Breakey said Idgie also has been four-wheeler riding, and has accompanied her owners on goose- and duck-hunting trips.

"The biggest feat Idgie has accomplished so far though, is hiking the Black Forest Trail here in Lycoming County this July," she said.

"She did 36 miles of the loop known for its elevation changes, north of Waterville. Idgie did this trip in four days, with her owners - myself and Tyson Johnson - and her big brother, Wilbur, a 5-year-old Labrador Retriever.

"She braved hot weather, long days, mountains, snakes, sleeping under the stars and even a violent thunderstorm."

When she isn't conquering the world, Breakey said Idgie enjoys chewing on socks and napping with Wilbur.
