Fire prevention and a field trip
By Chanler, grade 8
On Sept. 30, students in grades 5 to 8 at Mountain View Christian Academy, South Williamsport, went on a field trip to Blue Mountain Academy. It was 2 1/2 hours away.
We arrived at the academy and we had brunch. Then we went and unpacked. It was so much fun. There were at least 200 kids there.
Then we went onto our first class. We all picked gymnastics and volleyball. Sadly we got separated from one of our members, but it was still a blast.
We saw old friends and met new people. We had gymnastics first, and it was so much fun. I learned how to wall climb and do things I didn't know I could do.
We did all kinds of things like tripods, cartwheels, headstands, jumping off mini-trampolines and more.
We did other things throughout the day.
Then we had dinner. After dinner we had worship in the chapel. We talked about the fire in our heart, and how we should hold up the torch of God.
After worship we played dare base and capture the flag (but we used balls). Last, we went to our dorms, washed up and went to sleep.
When we woke up, we were so sore and exhausted. There were muscles in our body that we didn't know were there.
We had breakfast, then we went to play volleyball. That was a blast, too. We practiced serving, setting and bunting.
Then we had a game of volleyball. Finally, we had lunch and had a little worship and a slide show of the two days.
We went back to our dorms, packed up and left. We all really didn't want to go even though we were so sore. We had fun and I recommend you go. You'll have a great time because I know I did.
On Oct. 11, four volunteer firefighters came to our school and showed us what to do in case of a fire and what not to do at home so we don't cause a fire. They told us how long they have been volunteers.
They also introduced themselves and told us their position. Did you know that they don't get paid for what they do?
Afterward, they showed us their fire trucks. They told us about each item on the truck and what each is used for.
We all got a chance to sit in the seats of the trucks.
It was really fun. They were good people. Prevent fires and be safe.

A week ago, my class and I went to Hershey Gardens. It was fun. I learned about American Indians. They had a small playground. There even was a floor that made music.
We were going to stay longer, but we had to go.
A couple of days ago firemen came. They talked about fire safety. We got to see the fire truck.
One of the firemen put on his fire suit. We got to get in the fire truck.
They said that they could put a blanket of foam in the front yard of the school. They also showed us their tools.
