County
Lycoming County commissioners approved a $550,000 grant contract for a Brownfields assessment plan for sites in the city and Muncy area. Commissioners also approved a $140,000 commitment from natural gas impact fees to support an industrial reuse program at the former Brodart warehouse on Memorial Avenue that will be developed into community housing. Voting in favor of both were Jeff C. Wheeland and Ernie Larson. Tony Mussare voted against the Brownfields grant.
Municipal
Williamsport Municipal Water and Sanitary Authority ratified a contract with Larson Design Group for engineering to move a water main out of the way of construction on Sheridan Street and Northway Road at a bridge over Miller's Run. Voting 7-0 on the measure were Thomas A. Frazier, William E. Nichols, Eiderson A. Dean, Dean P. Muller, Thomas Marnon, Johnny R. Meyer, and Gregory Zeitler. William Ertel, Matthew Rebeck and Dr. Marshall D. Welch were absent.
Hughesville Borough Council voted 6-0 to award the bid to repair rock formations known as rip-rap to Hawbaker Engineering, of State College, which submitted the lowest bid of $12,565. Voting yes were Mary Burns, Richard Smith, President Jeffery Berger, Andrew Mook, James Savage and Curtis Michael.
Loyalsock Township supervisors approved a conditional-use plan for construction of a duplex at 1941 Poco Farm Road. Supervisors also approved phase two of a levee system evaluation in conjunction with Old Lycoming Township, South Williamsport Borough and the city of Williamsport. Voting in favor of both measures were Marc Sortman, Virginia Eaton, John Bower, Rick Wheeland and Jeff Rauff.
School district
Jersey Shore Area School Board voted 9-0 to approve putting the Jersey Shore Elementary School renovations and addition project out to bid. The projected total cost of the project is about $14.4 million. Voting in favor were board members Robert Pryor, Shelley Helm, Craig Allen, Harry Brungard, Karen Stover, Denise Smith, Harry Miller, Heather Williamson and John Shireman.
Loyalsock Township School Board voted 8-0 to appoint Kaylene Jacobson-Francis as a temporary professional employee assigned as a special education teacher. Voting in favor were board members Edward Ade Jr., Sheila Yates, Stephen Dewar, William Carlucci, David Hornberger, Christina Kiessling, John Raymond and Paul Young II. Board member Maureen Carey was absent from the meeting.
East Lycoming School Board voted 7-0 to approve James Toohey to be paid $2,500 as a school news reporter and photographer for the 2012-13 school year. Voting yes were Donna Gavitt, Richard Bradley, Richard Michael, Randy Eddinger, Debra Sherlinski, Diane Santo and Lea Ann Hawk. Dr. Amy Rogers and Kellie Shaner-Gordner were absent.
