Fundraiser planned at hospital

WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will benefit from the "Hobbies On The Hill" sale planned for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

The hospital's board room will be filled with plush and resin Boyds Bears, Jim Shore figurines, scarves, candles, the Bearington specialty line and other collectibles.

Evangelical holds screenings

Community Health Education at Evangelical Community Hospital will hold a series of blood sugar and blood pressure screenings through the month of November.

Free blood pressure screenings will be held:

Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mifflinburg Bank and Trust, Lewisburg branch

Nov. 27, 9-11 a.m. at Milton YMCA

Mondays, 9 a.m.-noon; Wednesdays, noon-4 p.m.; and Fridays, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Community Health Education Center, Route 15, Lewisburg.

Free blood sugar screenings will be held:

Nov. 9, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mifflinburg Weis Markets

Nov. 13, 8-10 a.m. at the Susquehanna Valley Mall Blood pressures will be provided, too, by the Agency on Aging Inc.

Nov. 27, 9-11 a.m. at the Milton YMCA

From 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, an "Image for Life" will be held at the Degenstein (main) entrance of Evangelical. The painless scan assesses the risk for stroke and diseases of the veins and arteries, plus details basic lung and heart functions. Screening includes on-site vascular consultation with Dr. Todd M. Stefan, of FACS Central Susquehanna Surgical Specialists. A fee applies and registration is required.

A comprehensive blood screening will be held 8-10 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Susquehanna Valley Mall Community Zone. The low-cost comprehensive blood screening can provide important details about your health, giving you and your physician the power to plan ahead. The tests include a lipid panel (HDL, LDL, total cholesterol and triglycerides), complete blood count and a CMP (blood sugar, electrolytes, calcium, protein, liver enzymes, etc.) Registration required.

8th annual holiday soiree benefits hospital

WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital has teamed up with Dunham's to present the shopping spectacular of the season. Join the fun festivities and get 20 percent off everything at the Holiday Shopping Soiree on Saturday.

From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dunham's Department Store and Furniture will be open exclusively to soiree ticket holders, who will enjoy door prizes, hands-on craft and cooking demonstrations, delicious appetizers, exciting entertainment and free gift-wrapping, in addition to the discount.

Tickets may be purchased now and all proceeds support the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

PCT offers training for dental hygienists

Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering a 30-hour, noncredit course designed to provide licensed dental hygienists with the necessary knowledge and skills to administer local anesthesia in a clinical setting. Sessions will be held Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 3-11.

Participants will gain knowledge in orofacial anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, armamentarium, local anesthesia administration, complications and side effects, and emergency procedures.

Author to teach how to heal through forgiveness

LINDEN - The Rev. Dr. Michael Barry, director of pastoral care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, will present "Release! The Healing Power of Forgiveness."

The presentation, which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Pine Run United Methodist Church, 1719 Pine Run Road, will provide resources and education that encourage healing through forgiveness, based on his book, "The Forgiveness Project."

A complimentary dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Free copies of his book, "The Forgiveness Project: The Startling Discovery of How to Overcome Cancer, Find Health and Achieve Peace," will be available at the presentation.

Health system offers screenings for a fee

Susquehanna Health will hold blood screenings from 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at its Medical Plaza in Montoursville.

Available screenings include: general screening; lipid panel; cholesterol; glucose; cholesterol and glucose; hemoglobin A1c; TSH; PSA; Vitamin B12; and Vitamin D. Fees apply for each screening.

A "Look Good, Feel Better" workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Susquehanna Cancer Center at Divine Providence Hospital.

Learn tips and tricks from a trained cosmetologist. Registered participants will receive a free kit containing skin care and makeup products.
