Police: Motorist allegedly hit nurse

October 30, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

An intoxicated motorist involved in a crash faces assault charges after he allegedly struck a nurse in the emergency room at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center, according to state police.

Matthew Thomas Clark, 25, of 452 Meadowview Drive, Eldred Township, had a blood-alcohol content level of 0.10 when he crashed his Volkswagen Jetta into a tree at Warrensville and Country Farm roads in Loyalsock Township about 3:10 a.m. Feb. 18, police said.

"I detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and body," the state trooper who investigated the crash said of Clark.

Clark was "visibly shaken and both his eyes were swollen shut," the trooper said, adding that the driver was taken to the hospital. While being treated for his injuries, Clark ripped an IV out of his arm and pushed and struck nurse Benjamin Liebersohn. The nurse suffered a cut on his hand, police said.

Arraigned earlier this month on charges of simple assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment, Clark was released on $2,500 bail.
