Albert K. Johnson, 90, of Williamsport, went peacefully to his lord and savior on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012. His wife, the former Carlene E. Brooke, died on May 28, 2001.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1922, in Williamsport, to Leon and Elsie Books Johnson, the second oldest of three sons. He was a 1940 graduate of South Williamsport High School and retired from Anchor Darling Valve in 1980 following 47 years of service. Albert was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He saw action in the Normandy invasion and North Africa earning a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Following World War II, he volunteered to search for Nazis. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Carlene Brooke on March 7, 1952.
He and Carlene were founding members of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Al was a generous man to all who knew him. He gave effortlessly to anyone who needed help, whether it was financial or means of food and warmth. He loved God, his family, country and fellow man. He was well respected in the community. He was a good steward to the earth as he loved to garden and share the fruits of his labor. He also enjoyed reading the bible, painting, sports, photography, woodworking and canning.
Albert is survived by two sons, James (Vicki) Johnson, Williamsport, Bruce (Eva Zou) Johnson, Cogan Station; three daughters, Holly Johnson, Williamsport, Joni Tubbs, Williamsport, Merry Johnson, South Williamsport; five grandchildren, Heath Heller, Blair King, Meghan Johnson, Tanner Johnson and Eileen Johnson. He was predeceased by two brothers, Merlin Johnson and Leon Johnson Jr.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Warrensville.
Family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to Lycoming County SPCA, 2801 Reach Road, Williamsport, Pa., or Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1730 Four Mile Drive, Williamsport, Pa.
