John W. Irion, 83, of 76 Jerry Lane, Montoursville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Geisinger Medical Center.
He was born May 20, 1929, in Montoursville, a son of Grover and Elizabeth Leavy Irion.
John was the owner/operator of Irionbrook Farm in Upper Fairfield Township and retired as a heavy equipment operator from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

He attended Heilman United Methodist Church and Lycoming Valley Baptist Church.
John was a member of the Allegheny Grange, the Northeast Chapter of Dairy Men's League Association, Huntersville Senior Citizens, Lucky Spike Hunting Club, Charter member of AGWAY, former Democratic Committeeman and the Fitness Factory, where he was the unofficial "Mayor." He also enjoyed fishing.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, the former Julia M. Howard; a son, Jerry; and two brothers, Grant and Paul.
John is survived by his son, John W. (Dianne) II of Montoursville; daughter, Judy A. (Craig) Fortney of Montoursville; 11 grandchildren, Patrick Holtzman, Christopher Holtzman, Jo Fortney, Kristen Fortney, Amber Irion, John A. (Holly) Irion, Melissa (Jonathan) Weaver, Tessa (Drew) Little, Jessi Irion, Marie (Chris) Tingley and Michael Irion; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Lycoming Valley Baptist Church, 4980 Lycoming Mall Road, Montoursville, with Rev. Jack J. Delaney and Rev. Connie A. Waugh as officiates. Interment will follow in the Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in John's name to the charity of one's choice.
