Lycoming College's swim teams swept their home-opening meet vs. Middle Atlantic Conference newcomer Hood on Saturday, with the men posting a 144-106 win and the women notching a 131-118 win.
Lock Haven's swim team fell to visiting East Stroudsburg, 120-85 at Zimmerli Pool, despite a good effort by Brittany Rehrig, who won two individual events and a relay.
The Lock Haven women's cross country team finished 15th overall as the Lady Eagles hosted the 2012 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships. Jessica McDonald was the top Haven finisher, ending 36th overall, while posting a personal-best time of 22:23.5 on the 6K course.
Alex Monroe defended his individual NCAA Atlantic Region title and the Lock Haven University men's cross country team tied for second today, earning the Bald Eagles a return trip to the NCAA Division II Championships.
In women's volleyball, Penn College lost it's final two games during the second day of group play at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Championships, dropping them out of contention for a title. The Wildcats lost 25-18 and 25-11 to Carlow, and also dropped two matches to host SUNY-Canton.
Lock Haven clinched the top seed in the PSAC East as it defeated Millersville 3-1. Lock Haven (22-9, 14-3 PSAC) pushed its winning streak to 10 straight matches.
In men's basketball, Tim Frazier had 17 points and eight assists, and Jon Graham added 16 points and seven rebounds to lead Penn State past Division II Philadelphia 79-54 in an exhibition game . D.J. Newbill, a Southern Mississippi transfer, added 15 points for the Nittany Lions, who open the regular season Friday against St. Francis, Pa.
Newcomer Onyema Utti recorded a double-double while Joe Bell and Brad Williams scored 11 points each but Mansfield fell to defending Atlantic-10 champ St. Bonaventure 104-61 in an exhibition game.
In women's basketball, Maggie Lucas scored 19 points and the Lady Lions held Division II California, Pa., to 18 percent shooting in a 95-39 win in an exhibition game. Nikki Greene added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Lions, the preseason pick to win the Big Ten.
