Giant has been a part of Williamsport for the past 30 years and in the Loyal Plaza Shopping Center since 2001.

"It's been a very good store for us," said store manager Marvin Mann.

With headquarters in Carlisle, Giant has stores across Pennsylvania and is the third largest private sector employer in the state with more than 26,000 full and part-time associates or employees.

Giant has 198 store locations

The local store employs 160 associates who busy themselves with various aspects of its operations.

The store features a large selection of items, including organic and natural products, USDA Choice meats, frozen foods, and perishables.

"We do excel at the quality of our perishables," Mann said.

A large selection of products at competitive prices make for a satisfying shopping experience.

"We have been offering brand names, stores names and generics," he said.

The store includes a pharmacy, cafe, bakery and other customer amenities.

Among the more challenging aspects of running a store, he said, is staying ahead of current shopping trends.

"We are changing with the demands of customers," he said. "We use Reward Cards and BonusCards. It has enabled us to better serve customers in the way of discounts."

A shopper can grab a cup of coffee at the cafe or brouse the store's selection of magazines.

Still, Mann refers to Giant as a "traditional supermarket."

"We strive to be better every day. We strive to be helpful, clean and friendly with a well stocked store," he said.

The store is in the midst of preparing for the holiday season.

It includes stocking up on the traditional items and dressing up the supermarket's interior.

"We'll buy extra sugar and baking items," he said. "We are actually a pretty store in a holiday theme."

Mann said he's happy with the store location.

"There's always been a lot of traffic," he said.

Mann said many of the employees have been with Giant for a number of years.

Recruiting new employees to carry on the tradition of good customer service is always a challenge.

"We have a lot of long-term associates, which helps," he said.
