Rita M. Kurtz

Rita M. Kurtz, 88, of Williamsport, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born July 30, 1924, to Frederick A. and Zedeana Grodivant Fox, Rita was a lifelong resident of Loyalsock Township.

She graduated from the Williamsport High School in 1942 and on Jan. 3, 1943, she wed Harold A. Kurtz, Warrensville. They shared 63 years together until his death in 2006.

Following in the tradition of her mother and grandmother, Rita spent many hours sewing, crocheting, gardening and creating a home for her family. She had also worked for several years as a library aide in the Loyalsock School District.

She was a lifelong member of the former Emmanuel Lutheran Church and served for over 50 years as an adult Sunday School teacher. She loved the Lord and spent time daily worshipping Him during her devotional time. She also loved music and will be remembered for her beautiful soprano voice.

She is survived by three daughters, Carol A. Simcox, of Hawkinsville, Ga., Patricia M. (Thomas) Crossley, and Laura L. Weber, both of Williamsport; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Rita was predeceased by her daughter, June M. Zarecki, her sister, Dorothy Simcox and a great-grandson.

The funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Interment will follow in Kurtz Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

In keeping with her wishes, the family asks that donations be made to St. Anthony's Center, 125 E. Willow St., Williamsport, PA 17701, in lieu of floral tributes.
