Melaine Makowiec, 88, lifelong resident of Blossburg, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Broad Acres in Wellsboro.
Melaine Charlotte was born on March 30, 1924, in Blossburg, a daughter of Charles and Genevieve (Boinski) Bogaczyk. She was the devoted wife of Albert "Pete" Makowiec and mother of five children.
Melaine worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Blossburg Hospital. She was a member of Blossburg's St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, Pete; four children, Georgette (Pete) Hall of Blossburg, Jani Chaborek of N.C., James Makowiec and Michael (Joni) Makowiec, all of Addison, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kimberly and Derek Hall, Nichole Chaborek, Michelle, Brigit, Kirsten, Colton and Trent Makowiec; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane (Art) Mahonski of Blossburg.
She was predeceased by her oldest son, Patrick and a granddaughter, Brooke Anne Makowiec.
Calling hours will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Zwicharowski Funeral Home, 314 Granger St., Blossburg. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Nov. 8 at St. Mary's Church with burial following in the parish cemetery.
