Leon H. Kriner

Leon H. Kriner, 90, of Williamsport, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at his home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1922, in Watsontown, the son of the late Earnie E. and Dorothy (Diehl) Kriner. He graduated from Williamsport High School, class of 1941.

Leon was married to the late former Geraldine M. (Tacka), until her death in 1976.

He retired at the Pennsylvania Railroad and Con Rail in 1982 after 40 years of service as an engineer.

Leon was a member of Lodge No. 106, F.&A.M., the A.A.S.R., Valley of Williamsport and the Zafar Grotto Rafaz Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0268, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers. He also served as president of Lockwood Rod and Gun Club Inc. for many years, and also served as the secretary-treasurer for two decades. He was a life member of NRA, and a life member of the VFW Post 7863, a member of the Highland Lake.

Leon was a Sergeant in the Army during World War II in China, Burma, India Theater, in which he received many medals, including the Bronze Star.

Leon is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James L. (Joan L.) Kriner of Williamsport and J. Scott (Loretta M.) Kriner of South Williamsport; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, Leon was preceded in death by one brother, Donald and one sister, Mildred.

There will be a graveside service at Wildwood Cemetery, 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, with the Pastor John Staje officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, 457 Market St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
