The Community Theatre League, 100 W. Third St., is holding open auditions for kids ages 10 through 17 to play roles in the upcoming, non-musical version of "Beauty and the Beast." Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the theater.
In this non-musical version of the famous story, a selfish prince is cursed by a powerful witch and is turned into a beast until someone loves him for himself. When the Beast sentences a poor widow to death, her beautiful daughter takes her mother's place and is able to transform the heart of the prince through the power of true love.
Director Gretchen Bower is looking for a large cast of 21 talented young people to play the various roles: Beauty, The Prince, Beauty's mother Madame Rondeau, Beauty's vain sisters Marguerite and Isabel, and of course, The Beast. There also are enchanted castle folk-furnishings and other princesses, servants and townspeople. The show will run in late January.
