PA's Grand Canyon Field Trip
By Kayla, grade 7
Friday, my class and I went to the beautiful Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. It was very cold. We listened to a guy talk about the Grand Canyon. Then after he was done talking we went to a lookout 800-feet above sea level. It was really steep.
After lunch, we hiked down the turkey path, hence the name "Turkey Path." It was really steep and muddy. It was a really educational, cold and fun trip.
I recommend you and your school to go when it's not freezing.
2012 SportsFest
By Kayla, grade 7
On Sept. 31 to Oct. 1, Mountain View Christian School went to Blue Mountain Academy's annual SportsFest in Hamburg.
We left early in the morning. It took about two hours to get there. Once we got there we got registered for our classes. Then we started our first session.
My friend Chanler and I were in gymnastics. We did all kinds of different stretches such as the tripod, where you have to put your elbows on your knees and hold. We also jumped on a trampoline and tried to push up on our hands. I personally wasn't any good at that.
After gymnastics we went to brunch. It was really good. After that we settled in our dorms in the north side of the girls' dorm. We went back to do more gymnastics and my personal favorite thing we did that session was when we "wall walked," which was falling back flat on the trampoline and then putting your feet on the wall in front of you.
Then we went for dinner and then went to chapel. After chapel we went to play dare base and capture the flag, and then we went to bed. The next morning we had breakfast, chapel, and then I went to volleyball.
Our coach was like a P90X teacher. She had us doing knee highs, lunging, and this weird combination of jumping up, down and then doing a push up five times. We also ran laps, and yes, we did actually play volleyball. Volleyball was really fun. We learned how to bump, set, and serve the ball. Then we had a break.
After our last session and went to chapel again and watched a slideshow of the weekend.
It was sad to leave all the new people we met, but we were ready to leave and go home to our warm beds.
SportsFest
By Taylor, grade 6
On Sept. 31 to Nov. 1, grades six to eight went to Blue Mountain Academy. There we played sports for two days. It took two hours to get there. It is located at Hamburg, Berks County.
When we did get there we registered and went to our first sport (my first sport was volleyball). After our first section, we went to brunch.
Later my friends and I went to unpack our things in the girls dorm and then onto our second section. Every once in a while we had a break.
Later we had lupper (lunch and supper) and then worship in the chapel.
In the evening we went in to their big gym and had some Doritos and an apple followed by games that lasted about three hours.
Thankfully we went back to our dorm got a shower and went to bed (everyone was very tired).
Well, a new day started and we got up at 6 a.m. to get ready. As soon as we put our feet on the floor we were hurting. Anyway we slowly walked down the hall and went to the bathroom, came back, got ready and went out to the cafeteria to eat breakfast (it was good).
Afterward, we went and packed our belongings and put them in the van and went to chapel and had morning worship.
Next we went to our second sport (my second sport was gymnastics). After about an hour or so we had another break, then back to our sport. After our last section we went to lunch and chapel where they showed a slideshow.
Then sadly we left. Everyone had a great time. I can't wait till next year!
Hershey Garden and Grand Canyon
By Trey, grade 4
Hi, I'm Trey and I go to school at Mountain View Christian school. I'm going to tell you how fun it is at Hershey Gardens. They talk about Indians. They have a kid's garden. They have a butterfly garden. They let us act like Indians.
OK, now I'm going to tell you about the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. Well, first off it was very fun. One of the ranger's name was Jim. It was a great view on top of those mountains.
In the nature center is a movie about the park and stuffed animals on display. At one display is an old logging picture of a dog with acorn pipe. The ranger said it proved the people back then had a sense of humor.
