Latest YouTube video features design major at Penn College

November 12, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The latest video produced by Pennsylvania College of Technology has a shade of "green."

The building science and sustainable design bachelor-degree major is featured in the video recently added to the college's YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/penncollegevideos.

The major is seen through the eyes of Tyler L. Walter, of New Paris, as he completes a class project. The nearly four-minute video follows Walter and his classmates as they devise a green building design for the Olympic Park area of Seattle. The painstaking work includes physical mass models and a formal presentation. Kathleen K. Hart, student video production assistant and a Web design and multimedia major, edited the video.

Building science and sustainable design majors study sustainable approaches to materials, construction, site design, building design and the generation of energy. Students acquire a diverse set of skills and abilities that prepare them for "green" careers focused on energy, renewable energy and the environment. Potential jobs for graduates include LEED specialist, green building analyst-consultant, sustainable designer and facility manager.

Walter, who graduated in 2011, is using his building science and sustainable design degree as a springboard to becoming a registered architect.

He is in graduate school at the University of Cincinnati and is an intern at Di Donato Associates in San Diego.

The Penn College YouTube Channel has generated more than 331,000 video views since debuting in 2009.
