NEW COLUMBIA - Emily Nora Wertz will show her art work from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the New Columbia Civic Center, 224 Third St.
The public is invited to participate in a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Eos Therapeutic Riding Center in Bloomsburg.
Wertz, 15, has cerebral palsy and other special needs. She is the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Wertz, New Columbia.
She is a student at Milton Middle School and has enjoyed working with Debbie Dresler, physical therapist at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Likewise, Wertz is thankful for the devoted staff supporting her from the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, Montandon; Hope Enterprises, Williamsport; and the Milton School District.
She has been painting with her cousin, artist and teacher, Wendi Mills Wilver, since May. They have been exploring watercolors, acrylics and print-making.
Wertz has been riding horses at Eos since the age of 2.
Eos Therapeutic Riding center is a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with special needs. The program was established in 1992 to provide therapeutic horseback riding activities for mentally, physically and emotionally challenged children and adults.
The program began with seven riders and two loaned ponies. Eos now serves 87 riders using nine horses and ponies. Some of Wertz's "family and friends" at Eos are Debby Reifendifer, Denise Treven, Lori Benner and Debbie Smith.
Wertz has participated in the Lewisburg Teen Challenger Baseball League.
She loves the outdoors and enjoys strolls with her family. She looks forward to each day at school and especially enjoys her ride on the school bus.
Her favorite classes are reading and writing.
She has a positive attitude about homework and often tells her teachers, "I wanna do work."
More than 30 of Wertz's original artworks will be included in the silent auction and the successful bidders will take home their purchases at 4 p.m.
