George L. VanHorn, 99, formerly of Williamsport, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville.
Born Oct. 14, 1913, in Elkland, he was a son of the late John and Mary Pond VanHorn. He was preceded in death by his first wife Violet P. (Kennedy) VanHorn in 1989; his second wife Veleda (Deats) VanHorn in 2009; a daughter Delores A. Lowe in 1993 and eight siblings.
He was a 1931 graduate of Williamsport High School, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Canteen Vending in 1985 after over 20 years. George had bowled for many years in different leagues around Williamsport, and had played baseball with the Elkland Old Timers team. He was a life member of the Elkland American Legion Post No. 428 and a member of the St. John United Methodist Church, Elimsport.

Surviving are his son, Richard L. VanHorn and wife, Kay of Allenwood; seven grandchildren, and many great and great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 13, 2012, at Alvira Cemetery, Allenwood, with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 715 Pikes Peak Road, Allenwood, PA 17810.
