MONTGOMERY - Borough Council Tuesday adopted a $464,189 budget for 2013 that includes a 0.5-mill real estate tax increase.
The increase equates to $50 more per year for a house assessed at $100,000, according to John Lynch, borough manager.
The 2012 budget was $427,000, he said. The increase millage is expected to bring in $22,000.
"We had about a $28,000 profit or a contingency cushion," he said.
It could have been worse with required wage increases for police and non-uniformed employees, according to Mayor Andrew Onufrak II.
"I am proud of this budget," Onufrak said.
Had it been a 1-mill tax increase, that would have hit people with property values assessed at $100,000, by double, he said.
The borough last tax hike was four years ago.
The budget eliminates a codes enforcement officer position and one street worker, who was injured, according to Lynch.
Walter Bohner, a codes officer for the past 22 years, was let go, he said.
"They'll let you know what happened," Bohner said before leaving the borough office.
The borough also no longer receives revenue from sewer which paid for some expenses. When a regional sewer plant under design in nearby Clinton Township goes online, it is expected to serve the borough and Muncy, and Clinton and Muncy Creek townships.
