Martina McBride will perform her “Joy of Christmas”?show at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St. Tickets range from $47.50 to $77.50 and are available at www.caclive.com or by calling 326-2424.
The show is billed as a joyful night of heartfelt passionate music that will get the audience in the holiday spirit.
"I love Christmas, it's so festive. My kids have been super ready for Christmas since July," she said with a laugh.
"I love the Christmas tour," she said. "It's so unique because there's only 17 shows between Thanksgiving and Christmas."
McBride said she loves singing Christmas music and creating a holiday atmosphere during her performances. She said her previous holiday tour was staged in large arenas, but for this tour, she wanted more intimate, smaller settings so she can connect with her audiences.
She said the audience can expect many of the songs from her "White Christmas" albums, along with a few surprises and pop Christmas songs. Her favorite Christmas songs to perform are "O, Holy Night," "O Come All Ye Faithful" and the "Christmas Song," a song that's so classic she said it always puts her in the mood for the holidays.
"I'm going to do 'Please Come Home for Christmas' and Elvis's 'Blue Christmas,' too," she said. "I want to create a really special show that's fun, entertaining and emotional."
McBride said the two-act show will feature a short intermission, along with lots of costume changes. She said the performance will be theatrical and family friendly.
While in Williamsport on Dec. 8, McBride hopes to take in some of the city's sights and cross off some items on her Christmas shopping list.
Although she is starting the holiday tour right on the heels of ending her "One Night Tour," McBride said she doesn't need much time to rest.
"I love it. I love to tour and I love to perform," she said. "The hardest part is just trying to stay healthy during this time, so I do lots of hand-washing, eat good food and drink lots of water."
Often called the "Celine Dion of country music," McBride first broke onto the music scene in 1991 with her single, "The Time Has Come."
She's recorded 11 studio albums, one greatest hits compilation, one live album, a Christmas compilation, as well as two additional compilation albums.
Now, she's putting more of a focus on songwriting.
"Honestly, I just made time for it," she said. "All three kids are in school full time, so I wanted to see what would come of it if I tried it ... I love being able to express myself in this way; it's very liberating."
Tickets range from $47.50 to $77.50 and are available at www.caclive.com or by calling 326-2424.
