Discussions on non-federal issues such as abortion, legalization of marijuana, and same-sex marriage seem to always take a front-row seat. These issues are not the responsibility of the federal government; these issues are the responsibility of the states. I am curious as to why the federal government feels that the nation needs to be scattered in over 130 countries worldwide? Why do we continue to spend obscene amounts of money on military spending? Why do we continue to be a force in the Middle East?
Drone warfare is fast becoming the new and improved way of "spreading democracy" in countries such as Libya, Yemen, and Pakistan. Incessant strikes have been carried out by the current administration and countless lives have been killed. A study conducted by the Stanford Law School and New York University School of Law say the number of "high-level" targets killed as a percentage of total casualties is about 2%. This is a miserable failure rate. First-hand accounts of drone attacks from civilians paint a similar picture. Are we making our own enemies? Are we creating the next Osama bin Laden?
When do we draw the line? Pakistan is considered an ally of the United States, yet we continue to bomb the country into the ground. In 1999, then-President Bill Clinton, set an ominous precedent. He initiated the bombing of Kosovo without prior approval from the United States Congress or the American People. George W. Bush used that precedent for the second Iraq War, and now it seems Barack Obama is continuing the madness with bombing the aforementioned countries, mainly Libya. It is important to note that Mitt Romney was a cheerleader of attacking Iran without a war powers approval or special authorization from Congress.
