The Academic Decathlon of Central Pennsylvania held its first competition for the 2012-13 year on Nov. 8 at Penns Valley High School in Spring Mills.
Competitions were held in Essay, Language and Literature, Art and Social Science.
Of the local teams, Montoursville came in first place out of eight teams. St. John Neumann Regional Academy came in third and South Williamsport was fifth.

Montoursville medal winners were:
Honors Division - Nicole Payne, senior, gold in art and social science and gold for overall score; Tori Garman, senior, bronze in art and essay; and Stephanie Sorage, senior, bronze in literature and language.
Scholastic Division - Hunter Vogan, senior, silver in art, bronze in language and literature; Abby Caviston, senior, silver in art and essay, bronze in language and literature; and Andrew Shaffer, junior, bronze in social science.
Varsity Division - Cody Lathrop, senior, gold in essay, bronze in art and language and literature and gold or overall score; Saundra Simpson, junior, gold in art and language and literature and silver for overall score; Adam Rose, junior, bronze in essay and language and literature; Michael Light, junior, silver in language and literature; Emily Lucas, freshman, silver in language and literature; and Travis Bastian, senior, bronze in social science.
Also competing for Montoursville were seniors Bud Anthony, Dalton Cristini, Saya Koontz and David Modispaw; juniors Aiyana Allanson, Jerry Blaschuk, Logan Bomboy, Coral Klinger and Alyssa Kriner; sophomore Alex Watts; and freshmen Kyra Anthony, Tesia Koontz and Joey Rose.
