MANSFIELD - Mark Sterner will deliver his personal story "DUI: A Powerful Lesson" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Mansfield University's Straughn Hall.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
In 1994, Sterner was involved in an accident that killed three of his college friends and left him critically injured and facing felony counts of DUI manslaughter. He was convicted and spent two years in prison.
In his presentation, Sterner tells his story in the hope that students and others in the audience confront their own decisions.
He doesn't preach or tell people what to do, but puts real faces to the tragic consequences of impaired driving by showing videotape the friends made of their trip, ending just moments before the crash. Sterner's hope is that, after hearing his story, people realize that the simple choice they make, like drinking and driving, can cause an everlasting impact on their friends, families and themselves.
