Get checked at the James V. Brown Library from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with players from the Williamsport Outlaws FHL hockey team.
The library is excited to be partnering with the new sports team for a winter reading program.
Monday night will be a meet-and-greet event for the community to talk with hockey players, receive autographs and learn the rules of the game.
The event is free and open to all ages and families to attend.
Recently, Pew Research Center found that 83 percent of Americans between the ages of 16 and 29 have read only one book in the past year.
The James V. Brown Library wishes to encourage reading throughout the entire year.
In the past, the library has sponsored an extremely successful summer reading program.
This year, the library will be hosting a winter reading program called, Get Checked @ the Library.
The winter reading program registration begins Jan. 2.
Each child registered will receive a half-price ticket to a Williamsport Outlaws hockey game to be used at a home game for the remainder of the season through March.
There will be a JVB Library night at Bowman Field on Jan. 12. Children registered in the winter reading program will be recognized by the team that Saturday evening.
Registration is not required for the Monday night meet-and-greet event, but it is encouraged.
Registration can be completed online at https://pa.evanced.info/ jvbrown/evanced/eventcalendar.asp.
