Ellen Victoria ‘Vicki’ Bickham (Brunson) Lewis

Vicki B. Lewis, 62, of 711 Herdic St., Williamsport, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa.

Vicki was born Ellen Victoria Bickham on Dec. 8, 1949, in Vivian, La. She was the daughter of Calvin Eugene Bickham and Mildred Alice Bickham (nee Wood) of Bossier City, La.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, James D. Lewis; her daughter, Lee Ellen Brunson Scilia (and husband Shawn) of Bossier City, La.; two sisters, Leah Volentine (and husband Ray) of Dixie, La., and Betsy Moore (and husband Mike) of White Hall, Ark., along with other extended family. She was predeceased by her parents and her two brothers, David Bickham of Edmond, Okla., and Calvin Bickham of Bossier City, La., respectively.

Vicki graduated from Bossier High School, Bossier City, La., in 1967. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. and a master's degree in home economics from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La. in 1975. She began her career in Bienville Parish, La. as an Assistant Home Economist in 1971. She worked in the Louisiana State University (LSU) Cooperative Extension Service in Bossier, Webster and Claiborne Parishes. She worked for several years in the Louisiana Aging Network, first as a field representative for the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs and then as director of the Bossier Area Agency on Aging/Council on Aging. She then returned to LSU Cooperative Extension Service. She and Jim married in 1990 and moved to Pennsylvania in 1997 where she has worked for the Penn State (PSU) Cooperative Extension Service, first in Tioga County, and then in Union and Lycoming Counties as County Extension Director and Family Living Educator.

Vicki loved the Lord and her church. She is the current chairperson of the Northumberland Baptist Association. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Williamsport where she served as chairperson of the church council and as the adult Sunday school teacher. She was also active in many other capacities in her church and is well loved by all her church family.

Vicki will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, which was apparent to all who knew her. She was a cherished friend to so many and an indescribably wonderful mother, not only to her daughter, but to others in need of love and compassion in their lives. A favorite quote was one from Plato: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." She will be missed beyond measure.

A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 43 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at 7 p.m. with Pastor Peter C. Wilson presiding. Light refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall after the service. Flowers for the service will be provided by the family. If you wish to honor Vicki, a memorial donation can be made in her name to Calvary Baptist Church at the address above.
