Keep firefighters

November 20, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

I would like to comment on the article titled 21 million city budget proposed (Nov. 6).

What is the mayor thinking when he wants to cut the police department by eliminating three officers and eliminating 10 firefighters? The police and fire departments are the lifeline of any borough, city, town, etc.

I often wonder if the mayor ever thinks of what would happen if, heaven forbid, their was a huge major fire, for example, a large apartment building (high rise), or a hotel or motel and people were possibly trapped couldn't get out and lost their lives because of a shortage of firefighters. How would he feel? I don't think he has a conscience or he hopefully would feel guilty for the lives that were lost.

As far as the police department, the way the papers read they have their hands more than full and need all the help they can get. They put their lives on the line everytime they put their uniforms on and go to work.

So mayor, do what you have to do to keep the 10 firefighters.
