Raymond G. Butters, 91, of Morris, Pa., passed away peacefully in his home, Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012.
He was married to Peggy Bohnert Butters, who survives, and they would have been married for 59 years this December.
Raymond was born Aug. 27, 1921, the son of the late David Grant and Isabel Besanceney Butters. A graduate of Liberty High School, Raymond took over the family farm during his senior year after the death of his father. The farm, known as Silverlea Farm, grew into a successful operation and hosted the Third Annual Farm City Day in 1993.
The farm continues to be family owned and operated. An active member of the Morris community, Raymond was a long-standing and active member of the Nauvoo United Methodist Church, served as a past president and an honorary member of the Morris Fire Co., was the former director of the Tioga Co. Extension Board, a member of Nauvoo and Lorenton Grange, a trustee of Salem Cemetery Association, and a Director of the Tioga Conservation District. He loved being with his family and friends, John Deere tractors and traveling.
Surviving are his wife; four sons, David Butters (Sherri) of Morris, Gary Butters (Joanne) of Mansfield, Terry Butters (Pat) of Morris, and Glen Butters (Marilyn) of Troy; 10 grandchildren, James, Andrew, Erick, Jillian, Adam, Garrett, Jeremy, Aaron and Kevin Butters, and Angela Loych; three stepgrandsons, John, Jim and Jeff Eckart; six great-granddaughters; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and his sister, Dorotha Bohnert of Wellsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lee Butters.
Friends and family are invited to Raymond's Life Celebration From 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro, Pa., then from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at the Nauvoo United Methodist Church; funeral to follow in church at noon with Pastor Tom Harmic officiating.
