Hester M. Tombs

Hester M. Tombs, 94, of Wellsboro, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Nov. 23, 2012, at The Green Home. She was the wife of Harold J. Tombs who preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2011. They were married on Aug. 22, 1941.

Hester was born June 18, 1918, in Richwood, W.Va., the daughter of the late Newton and Faye Dancy Cutlip.

She graduated from Westfield High School, the class of 1937. Hester worked for the Federal government, Department of Agriculture, as a secretary before she retired in 1978. She was a member of the Independent Bible Church, Wellsboro. She was an avid member of the Tuesday Nite Ladies Bowling League, holding several offices.

Surviving are her sons, Keith (Jill) Tombs, Wellsboro, Dale (Veronica) Tombs, Twinsburg, Ohio; daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Van Gorder, Woodbridge, Va.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Thomas) Boyer, Brian (Stacey) Tombs, Janelle Tombs, Mark Van Gorder, Erin Van Gorder, Adele (Todd) Filtz, Derek Tombs, Matt Tombs, Mitch (Allie) Tombs; great-grandchildren, Logan Tombs, Lauren Boyer, Rachel Boyer, Leah Tombs, Taylor Van Gorder, Michael Tombs and Nikolas Colby. Three brothers, Carl, Harlan and Eldon and one sister, Beulah, preceded Hester in death.

Friends and family are invited to Hester's Life Celebration today, Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro, PA 16901. Funeral to follow at 7 p.m. with Dennis Bliss officiating. Burial in Wellsboro Cemetery.
