ROUNDUP: Bucknell women beat Morgan State

November 25, 2012
From staff reports , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

In women's basketball, Bucknell led for nearly the entire game and held onto that despite facing some frenzied defense, beating Morgan State 72-64 at Hill Field House on Sunday afternoon. Three Bison finished in double-digit scoring, led by Shelby Romine with 14 as the Orange & Blue improved to 3-2 and their first over-.500 record since 2008-09.

With her 13 points today, Alyssa Dunn is now averaging 15.2 points this season. Most of the senior's scoring today came in the second half after she was held to just three points in the first. Included in Dunn's total was a 9-for-9 performance from the free throw line, where much of both team's scoring came down the stretch.

A defender draped all over him and playing from behind all of the second half, senior Jerald Williams floated into the paint and lifted a shot over the defender, canning the eight-footer at the buzzer and sending the game into overtime, where the Lycoming College men's basketball team outlasted Wilkes, posting a 109-102 win on Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Marts Center.

Williams had another unreal stat line, posting his second straight double-double with 12 points, 17 assists and seven steals, crossing 600 career assists with his 11th during the game. He has posted three straight games of 10 assists or more for the third time in his career, helping the Warriors improve to 3-1 overall, as his 17 assists were both the second-most in his career and in school history.

Lycoming shot 50 percent (39-for-78) from the field and 71 percent (24-for-34) from the line. Wilkes shot 49 percent (40-for-81) from the field and 40 percent (14-for-35) from 3-point range, but were limited to just 13 free throws. The Warriors also held a 31-24 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Warriors get back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when they host their first Commonwealth Conference game of the season, facing Alvernia at 8 p.m. at Lamade Gym

The top-ranked and 2012 Big Ten Champion Penn State women's volleyball team (29-7, 19-1 Big Ten) earned the No. 1 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Nittany Lions host America East champion Binghamton (13-17) on Friday, Nov. 30 at Rec Hall at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the tournament.

Four members of the Lock Haven University volleyball team have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II All-Atlantic Region Team.

PSAC East Athlete of the Year Gao Xuan earned AVCA All-Region status for the fourth time in her career.

Also earning All-Region honors were PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Year Erin Walsh, senior setter Alexa Garrity and junior middle hitter Bailey Farthing.

Xuan, Walsh, Garrity and Farthing were all named to the PSAC East First Team this season.

Freshman forward David Glen scored his team-leading seventh goal and classmate Matthew Skoff made 42 saves to set a career high for the second straight game, but the Penn State men's hockey team fell to No. 8 Union, 4-1, at Messa Rink Sunday evening. The Nittany Lions fell to 6-5-0 with the loss, while the Dutchmen improved to 8-2-1.

Union's Daniel Ciampini, who also added an assist, opened the scoring at 7:21 of the first period before Glen tied the game less than a minute into the second stanza. Freshman forward Kenny Brooks and sophomore forward Max Gardiner collected assists on Glen's equalizing goal.
