Roundup: Tagliaferri gets first win at Mansfield

November 27, 2012
From staff reports , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Julia Stevenson recorded a double-double including a game-high 23 points to lead five Mountaineers in double-figures in Mansfield's 79-52 non-conference win over Houghton Tuesday night in Decker Gymnasium.

"We did a good job of executing our game plan tonight and getting a lot of players involved in scoring," said head coach Alison Tagliaferri, MU's all-time leading scorer who also got her first win Tuesday. "One of our goals after the first game was to play consistently in both halves of games and we achieved that tonight."

Mansfield, which never trailed, built a 18-8 lead on a 3-pointer by senior Kayla Espigh nine minutes into the game and would extended that lead to 43-23 at halftime. Stevenson was a dominate force in the first half hitting 7-9 shots from the floor and scoring 17 points while junior Jena Matter scored all 10 of her points in the first half.

Stevenson and Tagliaferri are both graduates of Jersey Shore High School. Stevenson ended the game with 23 points and 11 rebounds with Espigh adding 12 points, all of them coming on 3-pointers. Lacey scored a career-best 11 points. Fitzpatrick and Matter each scored 10 points.
