I am dismayed by the over commercialization of holidays and Thanksgiving is no exception. Rather than celebrating Thanksgiving for what it is an opportunity to reflect and consider things we are thankful for it turns out to be a precursor for Black Friday. The day of shopping overshadows and diminishes the holiday. This year it has even infringed on the day itself, as companies try to market and be open on Thanksgiving Day. Can no day or holiday be sacred anymore? We need to reflect on our blessings, focus on self-sacrifice and be respectful of times we need to set aside what we are doing and focus on our family.
