Carl William Hetzel, 88, of 2001 Memorial Ave., formerly of Liberty, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the Hershey Medical Center.
Carl's wife of 60 years, the former Sarah J. Derr, died Oct. 1, 2011.
Carl was a member of the Friedens Lutheran Church, Liberty, having lived there for 80 years. During the past eight years he lived in Williamsport, he attended the Trinity United Methodist Church.

VETERAN
Carl was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps. He and his wife owned and operated the Hetzel Farm in Liberty and was a Jackson Township Supervisor for over 30 years.
Carl enjoyed classic country music, was an avid baseball fan and was very good with baseball statistics. He also enjoyed playing cards, table games and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Carl was a fifteen plus gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross.
Born Feb. 27, 1924, in Liberty, he was the son of John and Rachael Rhoads Hetzel.
Surviving are sons, Robert E. (Marjorie) of Chambersburg, James E. (Dawn) of Bellefonte and Donald A. (Natalie) of Liberty; daughters, Constance L. (Peter Jr.) Lazich of Greencastle, Jacqueline A. D'Andrea of Trout Run and Jane H. (Thomas) Zimmerman of Palmyra; sisters, Florence Derrick of Benton and Mary Black Hawk of Ocala, Fla.; sister-in-law, Rose Ellen Hetzel Reas of Horseheads, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Carl was predeceased by a son, Carl William Hetzel Jr.; brothers, George and Daniel E. A. Hetzel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friedens Lutheran Church, Brick Church Road, south of Liberty. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Ave., and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Friedens Cemetery, Liberty.
