WELLSBORO - Brian A. Dake, 24, of 462 Gulick St., Blossburg, was charged by state police with receiving stolen property after he allegedly took a rifle valued at $996 and then sold it to Niles Guns and Gold, 11500 Route 6, Charleston Township, on Oct. 9.
According to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard's office, Dake took a Remington model .300 Winchester Magnum rifle with a Leupold scope that belonged to Ritchie L. House, of 98 Hemlock Lane, Blossburg, and sold it to Ron Niles, of Niles Guns, for $400.
Police said on Nov. 1 House found the rifle missing from his gun case at his residence with no apparent forcible entry. Having an idea who took it, police said he contacted Niles, who told him that he had the rifle but sold it on Oct. 31. It was recovered from the buyer Nov. 1.
Niles said the rifle had been sold to him on Oct. 9 by Dake for $400.
Dake was released on $10,000 bail, and his preliminary hearing has been set for Dec. 4.
