Walter I. Chesnut

Walter I. "Walt" Chesnut, 65, of Montoursville, died Nov. 29, 2012, at his home after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

He was born March 2, 1947, in Williamsport, the son of Durbin L. Jr. and Mary Sarah Ulrich Chesnut.

He and his wife the former, Diane L. Strouse, celebrated 32 years of marriage on July 3, 2012. Walt was a graduate of Loyalsock High School in 1965, a veteran of the Army and a graduate of Penn College. He retired from FedEx in 2008, was a member of Allegheny Ridge Hunting Club and Camp Mountain Hunting Club. He enjoyed the great outdoors. Hunting and especially fly fishing out West in New Mexico, Montana, and Utah was his favorite. His favorite pastime was to teach the young and old how to fish and catch large brown trout and how to appreciate the outdoors.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Diane are three daughters, Kristy L. Hinton on Sebastopol, Calif., Ashley (Mike) Sharp of Missoula, Mont., and Heather Chesnut of Williamsport; a son, Heath John Chesnut who is currently serving in Kuwait; two sisters, Mary Anne (John) Reidy of Farmington, N.M., Jane (Lance) Fogel of Bethlehem area; three brothers, Durbin L. (Betty) Chesnut III of Grover, John Chesnut of Muncy Valley, and Jack (Pat) Chesnut of Williamsport and six grandchildren, Montaro, Lupine, Rio, and Veda Sharp of Missoula, Mont., Kaena Chesnut of Anchorage, Ark. and Jenna Glace of Montoursville.

There will be a memorial service 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9 at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville with Rev. Marie E. Lewis officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral from 2 to 3 p.m.
