Overnight accident closes road

December 2, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

A section of Route 654 in Bastress Township was closed for several hours following a three-vehicle, late-night crash Friday that resulted in three people suffering injuries and one of the drivers being taken into custody by state police.

A car traveling eastbound sideswiped two westbound vehicles and nearly collided head-on with a third in the 5800 block of Route 654 about 11:15 p.m., according to Nippenose Valley Fire Chief Dean Miller.

An woman driving one car and a New Jersey couple in the other were all injured and taken by ambulances to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, Miller said.

One of the vehicles sheared off a telephone pole, making the road impassable, Miller said.

A witness said the male driver of the eastbound car was taken away in handcuffs by a state trooper.

No news release about the crash was available Saturday night.

Miller said the road was closed from Jacks Hollow Road to Valley Road in Susquehanna Township until at least 5 a.m.
