Mary Anne Johnson

Mary Anne Johnson, 83, of Newberry, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Rose View Center.

Born May 14, 1929, in Parkersburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Foster Perry and Mary Kirk Townsend.

She graduated from Coraopolis High School, Coraopolis, Pa., in 1949. Mary Anne retired from GTE Sylvania in Montoursville where she worked for many years.

Mary Anne was an original member of the Billtown Clowns and had a love for making people laugh and always wanted to "put a smile on someone's face." She was a member and auxiliary member of many Veteran Organizations including the American Legion, VFW and the 40 & 8. She gave of her time by delivering and donating many items to the veteran organizations and hospitals. She had a great love for her pets.

Surviving are her brother, Thomas A. Townsend and wife, Antoinette of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; two nieces, Judith Murgia of Md., and Karen Pelton of N.Y.; many great nieces and nephews; dear friend, Pat Straka and husband, Larry of Williamsport; and many other close friends.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Visitation will be held 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sanders Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
