Joseph P. Mitchell Sr., 52, of 469 1/2 S. Jones St., Lock Haven, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born in Williamsport, Nov. 13, 1960, to the late James H. Mitchell Jr. and Ann Baker Mitchell of Avis.
Joe was a 1979 graduate of South Williamsport High School, and had worked Jersey Shore Area EMS, Lock Haven EMS, and Susquehanna Health from 1987-1999 as an EMT. After that he served as the code officer for the Jersey Shore Borough and had worked for Lock Haven Distribution. He had a love for the fire company which started at an early age. He began his lifelong service as a volunteer fire fighter and EMT with First Ward St. 11, where he was a life member, and other companies in South Williamsport. He continued his service with Citizens Hose Co. St. 45 of Jersey Shore where he was a retired member. He passed along that love of serving the community as a volunteer fire fighter/EMT to his sons who proudly carry on the tradition.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sons, Joseph Jr. and Cory J. Mitchell, Jersey Shore; two sisters, LuAnn (Michael) Remick, Avis, Teresa (John) Bowman, Jersey Shore; two brothers, David P. Mitchell of Philadelphia, Bruce (Mary Lou) Mitchell, Stafford, Va.; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews along with his first wife, Jackie Brungard; and his companion of six years, Amy Joe Mincer.
Funeral services for Joseph P. Mitchell Sr. will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, Pa. Officiating will be Pastor Jeffery Howell of the Jersey Shore Calvary Baptist Church. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. with Fire Company tribute services conducted at 8 p.m.
Interment will be at the Wildwood Cemetery in Williamsport, Pa. The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home, in Joseph's name.
