Vision workshops offered for parents

MUNCY - Dr. Marcus Myers, of the Vision & Learning Center, 112 S. Main St., will hold free workshops for parents and professionals who want to learn about children's learning-related vision problems. The workshops will teach attendees how to identify children who may have vision problems that affect reading and learning.

Workshops will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today and Jan. 15 at the learning center.

Susquehanna Health announces events

Susquehanna Health will hold the following events to provide health information and benefit the community in December:

Strength and tonight classes, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 11 and 13 - Two free weeks of strength and toning classes will be held in the Wellness Room of Divine Providence Hospital, 1100 Grampian Blvd. Taught by Angela Miele-Kaiser, the classes include instruction on hand-held weights, physio balls, exercise bands, yoga positions/techniques and more. After the two free weeks, a new class will form in early January and a fee will apply for each eight-week session. Baby Cafe, 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, this week and Dec. 19, Blue Program Room, James V. Brown Library. Moms can meet and talk to other moms about their pregnancy and after birth experiences while spending time out of the house. A board-certified lactation consultant facilitates the group. Exchange tips about breastfeeding, receive breastfeeding support and discuss parenting concerns. Mothers may bring babies. Free weight checks for baby and light refreshments are provided. Osteoporosis screening, Monday, The LifeCenter, Lycoming Mall, Pennsdale. For a fee, register for a quick and painless ultrasound heel screening to measure bone density level. Call 877-883-4791 to schedule an appointment.

Flu shots, next Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., The LifeCenter, Lycoming Mall, Pennsdale. Susquehanna Health and the state Department of Health will provide flu vaccinations for a fee. Personal checks or money orders will be accepted as payment; cash and credit cards are not accepted. Appointments are not necessary. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

Stability ball exercise class, next Tuesday, 6 to 7 p.m., Costello Center, John Wenner Building, Divine Providence Hospital, 1705 Warren Ave. - Designed for time-pressed adults, stability ball users interested in freshening up their routine or individuals who have never engaged in much physical activity, this class teaches how stability balls are an excellent way to strengthen core muscles and work on multiple muscle groups at the same time. A therapist will teach a variety of exercises from basic to advanced. Participants are encouraged to bring a stability ball and wear sneakers and comfortable clothes. To register, call 877-883-4791.

Free hearing screening for adults, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 13, The LifeCenter, Lycoming Mall, Pennsdale - Provided in partnership with Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania by Susquehanna Health Clinical Audiologist Kimberly Dzikowski. Call 877-883-4791 to schedule an appointment.

Susquehanna Health's LifeCenter at Lycoming Mall will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 1 so volunteers can spend time with their families.
