Loyalsock Township accepts factfinding; top officers re-elected

The Loyalsock Township School Board made no change to its president and vice president as both were re-elected during Wednesday's reorganization meeting.

Edward Ade Jr. and Sheila Yates unanimously were voted as president and vice president, respectively, after serving in the same positions this past year.

In other business, the board voted 8-0 to accept a fact-finding report that deals with a contract negotiation between the district and its teachers union.

The two sides had been trying to come to an agreement on a new contract since January but hadn't been able to do so. Teachers have been working without a contract this school year and requested factfinding in October.

Although the board accepted the report, no details will be available on it until tonight at midnight due to a confidentiality agreement, said E. Eugene Yaw, board solicitor.

The board also took an opportunity to recognize Eagle Scout recipients from the high school during the meeting.

Board member William Carlucci, who also serves as the president of the Susquehanna Council, said that very few receive the honor because of the commitment and hard work it requires. He compared the work to going through college, while also being a full-time high school student.

Superintendent Robert Grantier said he would like to recognize students who receive the honor because it is a "big deal."

"I would hope that this is a tradition every year to recognize our kids," Grantier said.
