Local roundup: Lycoming men beat Elizabethtown

Lycoming junior Kevin Anthony led four Lycoming men's basketball players in double figures with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors pulled away in the second half to take an 88-71 Commonwealth Conference decision on the road at Elizabethtown on Wednesday night.

Michael Rudy added 14 points for the Warriors (6-1, 3-0 Commonwealth).

Penn College's Jesse Newman led the Wildcats with 19 points, but they fell to Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 69-65.

In women's basketball, Lycoming rallied past Elizabethtown, 70-62, for its first win of the season. Down by eight points with 5:26 left, the Warriors scored the game's last 16 points.

Julia Antonelli scored a season-high 19 points on 8 of 13 shooting to lead Lycoming (1-5, 1-2 Commonwealth Conference). She added 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the year.

Jamie Steer scored 26 points and Penn College beat Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 72-65.

In college football, Lycoming junior linebacker Kabongo Bukasa has picked up his first All-American honors, being placed on the second team from the Beyond College Sports Network, the website announced.

Bukasa led the Warriors and finished seventh in the league with 7.8 tackles and 0.33 interceptions per game, the only player in the top 10 in both categories. Leading the team with 70 tackles, Bukasa had five or more tackles in each of his first eight games.

Bukasa was also a part of a school-record five Warriors who earned d3Football.com All-East Region honors. Bukas, a third-team selection, joined senior defensive end Nate Oropollo, junior defensive tackle Dwight Hentz, senior guard Cody Moyer and sophomore safety Tanner Troutman.

Oropollo, who was named to the second team picked up his first all-region honors. The team captain led the MAC with 10.0 sacks and finished second with 16.0 tackles for loss.

Hentz, a second-team selection at defensive tackle, finished second in the MAC in sacks, posting seven, and tied for third in tackles for loss at 1.3 per game.

Moyer, a third-team selection, wrapped up his career by becoming the first Warrior offensive lineman to earn back-to-back first-team all-region honors from d3Football.com.

Troutman, a third-team choice, finished second in the league with five interceptions.
