Joseph F. ‘Fred’ Bertin Jr.

Joseph F. "Fred" Bertin Jr., 74, of 72 Overhill Road, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at The Gatehouse Hospice following an extended illness.

Joe and his wife, the former Donna G. Ruch, celebrated their 52nd anniversary on February 11.

Joe graduated from Williamsport Area High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant and retired from NCR. He was the Old Lycoming Township Emergency Management Coordinator from 1972 to 2008, a life member of the Old Lycoming Township Fire Company with 43 years of service, serving as a President and Assistant Fire Chief. He was a PA Constable in Williamsport's 9th Ward for 12 years, and a former member of the Newberry Lions Club.

Born April 9, 1938, in Williamsport, he was the son of Joseph F. Sr. and Mildred G. Blair Bertin.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are four children, Joseph F. III (Mona), Teresa A. Brown, Patti A. Hanner, and Kevin L. (Diana) all of Williamsport; a brother, Robert L. of Trout Run; a sister, Carol A. Mundrick of Williamsport; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Ave. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Company, 1600 Dewey Ave., Williamsport; the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or The Gatehouse Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd.; Williamsport.
