The Salvation Army Santa Fund

Tony's story

December 11, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Hello Santa,

I am reflecting back on that special day when Thanksgiving was here.

Family and friends gathered around the table giving "thanks" for all they have in life.

But while we all can be thankful - we also have questions, concerns, problems and issues that seem insurmountable.

But as we gathered around the Thanksgiving table we were most thankful for family and friends.

It makes me think of that song, "Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done."

Then it is back to the hectic life again.

We then begin the crazy days of Christmas shopping, getting that special gift, Christmas parties and everything else that is connected with the Christmas season.

As you are most aware, The Salvation Army also is very hectic this time of year.

We are busy preparing for the many families that need our assistance this Christmas season: toys for their children this Christmas, a special meal, fuel assistance, rent assistance; so many needs.

The Salvation Army also is busy with our volunteer Christmas kettles. These are essential if we are to help meet the many needs within our community.

The days seem to run together; Monday through Saturday.

But Sunday is a special day. It is our day of rest. There are no Christmas kettles out that day.

Just like that Thanksgiving table where family and friends gather; it is our hope that you are able to worship with family and friends.

We will be off and running again on Monday, thankful for the day of rest!

Talk to you again soon.

Sincerely,

Tony
