Barbara H. Miller

Barbara H. Miller, 102, of 123 Fountain St., Jersey Shore, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, in the ManorCare Health Center in Jersey Shore.

Born July 23, 1910, in Rheems, Pa., she was the daughter of Christian I. Heisey and the former Mary Zeigler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair M. Miller, on Aug. 24, 1995. They were united in marriage on Dec. 4, 1941, in Jersey Shore.

She was raised in Lycoming and Clinton Counties and was a 1930 graduate of the Jersey Shore High School. Barbara was a 1932 graduate of the Millersville Normal and taught in the Vilas Park school for two years and the Slate Run School for one year. She enjoyed painting as a child and took oil painting lessons from Dr. Mussina and Mr. Heileker from 1950-1960. She continued painting until the age of 99. Barbara was an accomplished seamstress, making all of her clothes. Also a knitter and quilter, she enjoyed making baby clothes, hats, scarves and vests. She was a life member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and the Trinity United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore. She was a charter member of the Jersey Shore Historical Society and a charter member of the Jersey Shore Garden Club. For many years she was a active member of the Jersey Shore Senior Citizens Group.

Barbara was the second of nine children, and she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Pauline, Jacob, Irving, Ruth, Jay and Mary. Barbara is survived by two sisters, Alice H. Fox and Harriet Z. Heisey, both of Jersey Shore; one sister-in-law, Doris Heisey of Jersey Shore; also nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1407 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday until time of services in the church. Rev. Helen M. Learn her pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made in her name to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1407 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of arrangements.
