Howard Antes

Howard Antes, 83, passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at his Fassett, Pa., home while in the care of his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 12, 1929, in Liberty, Pa., Howard was the son of the late, Irvin and Ocy Temple Antes. In service to his country, Howard served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan. He married the love of his life, Helen Beck Antes on June 9, 1954, in East Point, Pa. Together they shared a wonderful life and instilled strong values in their children and grandchildren.

Active in his community, Howard was a longtime member of the Fassett Baptist Church, a member of the NRA, South Creek Northern Tier Sportsmen's Club, a life member of the South Creek Fire Department, and the Pine Ridge Gun Club. Howard is remembered for his kindness, helping hand and warm smile.

Surviving is his loving family, wife and best friend of 58 years, Helen Beck Antes, Fassett, Pa.; children, Glenn (DeEtta) Antes, Gillett, Pa., Carol (Mickey) Zelko, Southport, N.Y., Dr. Theresa Antes, Gainesville, Fla., and Mark Antes, Fassett, Pa.; son-in-law, Marshall Watkins, Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; grandchildren, Jamie (Matt Watson) Watkins, Michael (Hannah Snyder) Watkins, Sarah Antes and Samuel Antes; stepgrandchildren, Chris Zelko and Sarah Zelko; great-granddaughter, Kelsi Watson; sister, Doris (William) Yocum, Carlisle, Pa.; brother, Clifton (Joan) Antes, Mansfield, Pa.; sister-in-law, Doris Antes, Southport, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews and many family friends.

In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Watkins; sister, Mary (Ted) Bussler; brothers, Louis Antes, Russell (Lenora) Antes, Watson Antes and John Antes.

Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport, N.Y., on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m., and again at the Fassett Baptist Church, 36089 Route 14, Gillett, Pa., on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, between the hours of 10 and 11 a.m. Funeral services will take place at the Fassett Baptist Church on Friday morning at 11 a.m. with his friends and pastors, Reverend Donald Rockwell and Reverend A. John Ford officiating. Burial will take place in Gillett Cemetery at the family's convenience, where full military honors will be accorded Mr. Antes. Flowers will be provided. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts be directed to Guthrie Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
